Richard C. Flick, 88, of Akron, died Monday September 30, 2013 at Pebble Creek Nursing Home, in Akron.
Dick was born January 16, 1925 in Washington County, PA to Carl Robison and Marie Helen {Thomas} Flick. He served in the US Navy during WWII. He married the love of his life Vera Meneely on October 6, 1956. He retired from Babcock and Wilcox.
A doting husband, loving father and ornery brother his greatest pride was his family and giving his children a great education. He was neither an anchor that held his sons back, nor a sail to take them forward, but a guiding light to show them the way. The first words anyone ever used when describing him were how much he loved his wife. Words cannot express the sadness we feel that he is gone but also the joy we have knowing he no longer suffers and will now guide us all with the light beaming through the skies from heaven. His final words were "Carry On" and what a powerful charge he has left us with. As in life his death will continue to inspire.
Dick will be deeply missed by his wife Vera; children Richard Scott (Sheila), Randy Jay (Chris); grandchildren Brandon (Rachel) Flick, Erin (Peyton) Cutlip, Megan Flick, Chelsey McKnight, Gabrielle McKnight; great-grandchildren Kane, Isabella, & Melody; brother Walter Flick.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents and beloved sister Helen (Betty) Zechender.
The family wants to extend a special thank you to the Angels at Pebble Creek who were part of his family in his final years and Summa Hospice for making his final days peaceful.
