With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Richard Rice II, 67 on December 22, 2023, following a long courageous battle with prostate cancer. Richard, a loving husband and father, found immense joy as a grandfather, doting on his grandchildren and creating lasting memories with them. His family was at the center of his world, and his love and guidance will forever be treasured. Death takes the body. God takes the soul. Our mind holds the memories. Our hearts keep the love. Our faith lets us know we will meet again.
Richard was self-employed in construction, specializing in remodeling and additionally worked various jobs. He was a licensed minister in the Church of God for 20 years and pastored New London Church of God for 13 years. Even after stepping away from the ministry, he maintained a heart for God and a passion for sharing the Good News with others. Known for his well-worn Bibles and the image of him in his rocking chair praying, Richard exemplified a deep and abiding faith. Throughout his prolonged illness, he faced adversity with unwavering resilience, holding onto his beliefs and reaching out for the companionship of friends and his church family. The Rice family is grateful for the warmth and support extended by everyone who visited during his hospitalizations and his final days.
He is survived by his wife Catherine (Frase) and in October celebrated their 40th anniversary, daughter Amy, son Richard John (Carly) and grandchildren Kylie, Timmy, Elijah, Marcus, Eliana, Haisley, Colt, and Barrett; brothers Michael (Gale Beth), Gregory, Craig (Andrea), and Patrick (Rose), sister-in law-Cindy Bennett, and many nieces, nephews and friends. Preceded in death by his parents-Richard and Mary Ellen and sister June.
Visitation will be held at Roberts Funeral Home, 1058 US-250, Ashland, Ohio Tuesday, December 26 from 4p.m.-6 p.m and one hour prior to the funeral service Wednesday, December 27 at 11 a.m. at Shenandoah Christian Church, 5642 OH-13, Shiloh, Ohio 44878 with Pastor Andrew Wells and his brother Michael Rice officiating.
