Robert Edward Bowling, 69, of Ashland, passed peacefully on Tuesday, December 2, 2014, at his residence, surrounded by his family following a brief illness.
Robert was born August 11, 1945 in Garrett, KY to Ernest and Mary Ann {Blanton} Bowling.
He graduated from Black River High School in 1965. Robert served in the US Army during the Vietnam War, where he received many medals including the Purple Heart.
He married his best friend Karen Elaine {Wachtel}.
Robert was employed as a machinist at Dana Hyco for seventeen years and then Advanced Cylinder, until he retired in 2007. He was known as "Bob the Builder" by many for his talents in cabinetry and furniture building. Robert was a loving family man, devoted to his wife, children and grandchildren. He was always available for home improvement projects and could always be found at his grandchildren's sporting events.
Robert will be deeply missed by his loving and devoted wife; children Mark (Amy) Hockenberry of Hayesville, Ohio, Michael (Rebecca) Hockenberry of Ashland, Ohio, Matthew (Melanic) Bowling of Rowsburg, Ohio, and Scott (Lea Ann) Bowling of Ashland, Ohio; grandchildren Sabrina, Austin and Nathan Conner, Brock, Braden, Yesenia, Cayse(Howell), Chay, and Conner Bowling; brother Tom (Margaret) Bowling; sister Rosemary (Nick) Harpster; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Ernie Bowling, Gladys Ritter, Merle Bowling, and Linda Kaufman.
Friends may call Saturday from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at Roberts Funeral Home-Ashland Chapel, Ashland. Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Layton Broome officiating.
