Robert F. Gilmore, age 48, born June 11, 1975 in Fairmont, West Virginia, He passed away Monday, May 13, 2024 at Marietta Memorial Hospital.  Robert graduated from Marietta High School in 1994. In high school he was an avid weight lifter and a gifted athlete and three-year letterman in football and track. At the end of his senior year, he developed a seizure disorder.   He attended Washington State Community College, where he graduated with an Associates Degree, while there he lost his vision to Leber’s Hereditary Optic Neuropathy.  Robert attended Kent State University with plans to study engineering. He later faced mental health challenges related to his vision loss. He endured both conditions for the remainder of his life with exceptional grace and dignity. Robert was truly one of a kind. He loved his family, he thought everyone was good and he never saw the bad in anyone.  He loved to play the guitar and was a proud bell ringer for the Salvation Army for the last 20 years.  He faced many adversities and yet never complained about anything. Many people were touched by his kindness. 

He is survived by his mother, Patrilla Nichols and her husband Curtis Nichols, his brother Thomas Gilmore and his wife Maxine and their daughter Aurora.  Also survived by his long-time friend Amber Miller who was repeatedly reminded by Robert that “she would always be older than him.” Also survived by their wonderful daughter Madison Miller. He is also survived by three step siblings Beth, Brad, and Bryan Nichols. 

He is also survived by his father John Gilmore and his wife Donna and their 3 daughters, Emma, Grace, and Katie and step sister Tonia.

He is also survived by his uncle Bert Osborne and his wife Shelly.  Also survived by his Aunt Kelly and husband Leonard Codispoti, Aunt Lou and husband Kenny Adkins and Aunt Mary Julia Gilmore.

He was proceeded in death by his maternal grandparents Robert and Fannie Osborne, and his uncle’s Joseph, Robert, and John David Osborne.  He was also proceeded in death by his paternal grandparents Eloise “Nana” and Fred Gilmore and his uncle Jim Gilmore.

The family will have a private memorial service.

The family would like to thank Marietta Memorial Hospital emergency room and ICU and specifically Dr. Umstead and Dr. Fischer and nurses that were so kind to Rob and his family.
