Robert Horst

Robert Vernon Horst, 91, Wooster, passed away February 25, 2016, at West View Healthy Living, Wooster. Bob was born December 24, 1924 in Canton Ohio to the late Leroy and Ella (Moser). He was united in marriage to Patricia R. Albright on May 25, 1946, at the East Chippewa Church of the Brethren. Patricia survives.
Calling hours will be from 4:00 to 6:00 Sunday February 28th at West View Healthy Living. Services will be at 2:00 Monday February 29th at West View Healthy Living. Donations may be made to the West View Healthy Living ROPC Fund 1715 Mechanicsburg Rd. Wooster, OH 44691 and to the East Chippewa Church of the Brethren 7207 Chippewa Rd. Orrville, OH 44667.
Bob graduated from Orrville High School in 1942 and served honorably in the Army during World War II in Europe. In 1949 Bob joined his father-in-law, Arden Albright, and brother-in-law, John Albright, in the operation of the Albright Welding and Radiator Shop. In 1956 Bob he became president of the company and the name was changed to Albright Welding and Supply Company Inc. After 54 years of his leadership Bob retired in 2010.
Bob was a faithful and generous member of the East Chippewa Church of the Brethren since 1946 having been involved in nearly every aspect of church function. Bob served as a teacher for 60 years including teaching junior boys, youth and four different adult classes. Bob also served as the church's Sunday School superintendent for many years and served on the Church Board at various times. Bob was a Deacon, a Youth Advisor and was active in the Adult Choir as well as being involved in Lay Witness Missions in Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia, England and Northern Ireland. He has been described as a natural spirit-filled leader.
Bob was a Lifetime Member of the American Welding Society, a blood donor and was a Junior Achievement volunteer. Cheering for the Indians, the Browns and travel were favorite pastimes. Above all, Bob was a man of deep faith and a true gentleman.
In addition to his wife, Patricia, he is survived by a son Jim (Becky), grandchildren James (Kim), John (Sara), Steffan Horst and Lindsay Horst; and great grandchildren Avery and Thomas Horst, and Claire Horst. Brother Charles Gene Horst, sister Helen Gerber and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Don, Dick, Harry and son Robert V. Horst Jr.
Bob was professionally and lovingly cared for by the staff of West View Healthy Living. The family is so thankful for all they have done, not only for Bob but the entire family.
