Robert Leroy Marthey, 91, of Apple Creek, died Monday, October 29, 2018 at LifeCare Hospice, in Wooster.

Robert was born December 22, 1926 in Franklin Township to Lawrence and Blanche {Chenevey} Marthey.
He graduated from high school before joining the U.S. Navy in 1944. Robert served in World War II as a seaman, 1st Class.
He married Virginia Yoder on February 9, 1952.
Robert worked as a brick mason for 15 years after his return from the military. He then worked as a rural letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 28 years, until his retirement and served as a Township Trustee for 20 years. Robert was a Life Member of the Apple Creek American Legion Post 147. He was active in the Apple Creek community and enjoyed golfing, poetry and doing crossword puzzles.
Robert will be deeply missed by his wife, children David (Debbie) Marthey, Daniel (Kathy) Marthey, Patrick Marthey, and Karen Marthey; 9 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; his dog, Max who was his faithful companion.
Robert was preceded in death by his son Michael Glayde Marthey, his parents, three brothers and one sister.
A Celebration of Life Luncheon will be held Saturday, November 3 from 12 to 2 p.m. at the Apple Creek Legion, 8493 Hackett Road, Apple Creek.
