Robert “Bob” Piar, age 96, formerly of Ashland and Wooster, Ohio and most recently a resident of Grandview, Ohio passed away Tuesday, September 10, 2024 at Riverside Hospital in Columbus.
Bob was born August 29, 1928 in Danville, Ohio to Edwin J. Piar (father) and Bertille A. Piar (mother.) He graduated from Lakeville High School in 1947.
Bob married Joan “Jody” Rhamey on July 14, 1951. He worked 22 years as a crane operator at United Steel (Fabricators) in Wooster. He then worked the next 22 years as a well tender for Columbia Gas Transmission in the Ashland County area.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters Dorthy Richert, Grace Wachtel, Virginia Marker and his brother, Arthur Piar. Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Joan and daughter Jeanne Piar, both reside in Grandview, Ohio, along with his sister-in-law, Betty Piar, of Millersburg along with many nieces and nephews.
Bob was appreciative of the 96 years he was on this earth and the 73 years he was married to Joan. He loved to be active and was very talented with his skills in the shop. He built many wood working projects including, cabinets and toy storage shelves for loved ones. Bob was always active whether it was taking walks, golfing in retirement or going on an adventure with his neighbor, Toby McClure, at a moment’s notice.
Roberts Funeral Home, Ashland Chapel is assisting the family. In accordance with the family’s wishes, there will only be a private graveside service at Ashland County Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. Edwards Church, 501 Cottage St, Ashland, OH 44805, in Bob’s memory.
