Robert J. Sheeter, 89, of Shreve, died Sunday, May 29, 2016 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Friends may call Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Roberts Funeral Home-Sherwood Chapel. Funeral services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church with Father Steve Moran officiating. Burial will be at Sherwood Memorial Gardens, where military rites will be held. Memorial contributions may be made to Boy's Town at 14100 Crawford St., Boy's Town, NE 68010 or St. Mary at Hospitality Group 527 Beall Ave. Wooster, OH 44691.
Robert was born March 27, 1927 in Wooster to Hilary and Cecilia {Gillig} Sheeter.
Robert served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. He married Patricia Schmitz on May 14, 1949. She passed on July 31, 1998.
He then married Bonnie Siegfried Wachtel on November 7, 1998.
Robert retired from the O.A.R.D.C. after 30 years as a licensed steam engineer. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. Robert was a 4th degree member of Knights of Columbus, Holmes County Steam & Engine Club and Shreve American Legion Post 67. He enjoyed spending time restoring antique tractors and antique flywheel engines. Robert farmed for over 25 years, had a yearning for aviation, and loved to fish.
Robert will be deeply missed by his wife Bonnie of 17 years; children Brenda (James) Atkinson of Loudonville, Daniel (Mary Sharon) Sheeter of Santa Fe, TX, Steven (Connie) Sheeter of Wooster; step-children Rachel (Randy) Coleman of Dayton, Ruthi Patterson of Wooster; seven grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brothers Hilary Sheeter of Cuyahoga Falls and Paul Sheeter of Fostoria; sister Cordelia Holman of Fostoria.
Robert was preceded in death by his son Michael R. Sheeter, a brother Cletus Sheeter and a sister Agnes Brandt.
