Robert was born June 24, 1939 in Barberton, Ohio to Norman T. Velloney and Lois E. {Messner} Velloney. Robert earned a B.S. in Education from Wittenberg University and a Masters in Education from Kent State University. He was also a member of the Delta Sigma Phi fraternity and played four years of baseball while attending Wittenberg University. After graduating from Wittenberg, he married Barbara (Yannie). They were married for 47 years until Barbara passed away in 2010.
A Barberton legend remembered as humble, gracious and an inspiration, Robert was a teacher and then an Associate Principal at Barberton High School. Pursuing his love of coaching, Robert coached for the Magics including basketball and remained an announcer for the Christmas Greynold's Classic tournaments for many years. He was also inducted into the Barberton Sports Hall of Fame. He was an amazing educator, athlete and…even more amazing as a person. His heart kept him in Barberton and Wadsworth until 2010 when he moved to Chesterfield, MI to be with his son Mark, daughter-in-law Cheryl and his beautiful grandchildren Tiffani, Alexandra and Chase.
Robert was a wonderful father and an even better grandfather. He was the most positive person. Robert will be deeply missed by son Mark and daughter-in-law Cheryl Velloney; grandchildren Tiffani, Alexa and Chase of Chesterfield, MI; brother and sister-in-law Richard and Cathy Velloney of Orlando, FL; and sister and brother-in-law Karen and Steve Snyder of Alpharetta, GA.
