Ronald R. Neely, 79, of Lowell, Ohio, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on October 31, 2015 after a long battle with pancreatic cancer.
He was born April 9, 1936 in Ellamore, West Virginia, son of the late Denzil "Rod" and Dove Osburn Neely.
His educational journey began in a one-room school. He graduated from Jane Lew High School and attended Glenville State College before completing his bachelor's and master's degrees at West Virginia University. He taught Vo-Ag at St. Marys, WV, Science at Fairport Harbor, OH, and Science for 25 years at Marietta Middle School before retiring in 1990.
Following retirement he spent a lot of time making archery bows in his woodshop. He enjoyed reading and traveling as well as fishing, hunting and camping with his family. Ron was a Methodist by faith.
He enjoyed spending his life with Barbara (Edeburn) Neely, his surviving wife of 55 years; sons David A. (Janet) Neely of New Cumberland WV and D. Joseph (Patricia) Neely of Gerrardstown WV; daughter Kelly L. (Phil) Aliberti of Copley OH; grandchildren Kathryn Neely of Morgantown WV and Kristina Neely, Aaron and Emily Neely, Isabelle, Louis and Olivia Aliberti; sisters-in-law Margaret Neely of DeLeon Springs FL and Linda (Harris) Zinn of Mt. Clare WV; nephews James Neely and Robert (Zelta) Neely Jr. of DeLeon Springs FL, Jeremy Zinn of Gray LA, Nathaniel Zinn of Morgantown WV, and Cory Zinn of Chicago IL; and close friends and hunting buddies.
In addition to Ron's parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son Richard Douglas and a brother Robert W. Neely Sr.
Visitation will be Friday, November 6 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Roberts Funeral Home, 27880 St. Rt. 7, Marietta, OH, 45750. Funeral service will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Chaplain Ron Calvert and the Reverend Gary Doan officiating. Entombment will be in the East Lawn Mausoleum of Love. The family encourages that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Ron's memory to a charity of choice or to Marietta Home Health and Hospice, 450 Pike Street Suite 11, Marietta, OH 45750.
