Ronald Dean Van Wey, 78, of Reno, passed away June 29, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family. Born February 27, 1939, he was the son of the late Hazel Wagner Van Wey.
Ron was a 1957 graduate of Marietta High School; a U.S. Navy Veteran, serving from 1958-1962; and a retiree of RJF Manufacturing. A loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, Ron most enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a member of Sixth and Washington Church of Christ.
Ron was preceded in death by his mother Hazel; mother-in-law Eliner North; father-in-law Pearl North; sister Nancy Van Wey; brothers-in-law Joey Lee, Grady Sumpter, Kenneth Lones and Ray Kern; and sister-in-law Sara Lou Haught.
Ron is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Sonja "Penny" North Van Wey, whom he married August 17, 1962; his daughter Kelly René; his son Ronald Dean Van Wey II and his wife Kim Eddy Van Wey; grandsons Zachariah (Mikaela) and Benjamin; sisters Sally Lee, Barb (Bill) Ford, Gloria Grimes, Carol (Ray) Treadway and Kathy Sumpter; brother Gary (Bonnie) Van Wey; sisters-in-law Shirley Lones, Shelba Kern, Sue Strimer and Selma (Larry) Friesel; and brother-in-law Richard Haught.
Visitation will be Sunday, July 2 from 2 to 6 p.m. at Roberts Funeral Home – East Lawn Chapel, 27880 St. Rt. 7, Marietta. Funeral Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Roger A.
