Ruby Saltsman

February 24, 1918 — January 20, 2017

Ruby Elizabeth Saltsman, 98, peacefully entered into eternal rest on January 20, 2017, while residing at West View Healthy Living.
Ruby was born into a loving family from Nashville, OH on February 24, 1918, to Harley Ray Wachtel and Lydia Ruth {Hughes} Wachtel, the eldest of three children. Ruby loved to make others laugh and had many friends throughout her lifetime. She, along with her two siblings, Margery Cliffe and Lewis Wachtel shared a wonderful childhood, of which her children and grandchildren have had the joy of hearing treasured stories.
Throughout her lifetime Ruby was an avid flower gardener, planting gorgeous flower gardens admired by neighbors, friends, and passersby. Often teased for having a green thumb, she shared her gardening secrets and plants with family and friends. Additionally, Ruby was a marvelous cook and took great pride in her home.
Ruby was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved her family dearly. On January 9, 1946 she married the love of her life, Elwood Saltsman. In addition to her husband, Ruby was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Lewis Wachtel and sister-in-law Joy Wachtel; daughter, Patsy Tate; grandson, Jack Tate; step-daughter, Nancy Lloyd; son-in-law, William Schneider; and brother-in-law, James Cliffe.
Ruby will be deeply missed by her family. She is survived by a devoted sister, Margery Cliffe; daughters, Janet Cartwright and Cynthia Schneider; sons-in-law, Frank Tate Jr and Roland Lloyd; granddaughters, Jennifer (Keith) Rickett and Bree Schneider; grandsons, James (Jill) Dilgard, Shannon Murphy and Shawn (Loretta) Murphy; great-grandchildren, Tabitha (Joe) Becerra, Tyler White, Janae and Jerod Dilgard, Taylor and Maksim Schneider, and Ethan Murphy; along with cousins, nieces and nephew.
The family would like to thank the staff at West View Healthy Living, Dr. John K. Miller for their tender, loving care, and Pastor Kirk Fairhurst for the many prayers and blessings during her stay, and LifeCare Hospice of Wooster, OH.
Calling hours will be held Sunday, January 22, 2017 from 3 to 5 p.m. at Roberts Funeral Home-Sherwood Chapel, Wooster. A memorial service will be held Monday, January 23, 2017 at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Kirk Fairhurst officiating.
