Russell Gerber

May 2, 1926 — January 19, 2017

Russell E. Gerber, 90, of Wooster, passed away on January 19, 2017 at Burbank Parke Nursing Care.

He was born, May 2, 1926, the youngest of 12 children to John and Alta
(Umstead) Gerber in Winesburg, Ohio . He was two weeks old at the death
of his mother. Russell was raised as a foster son of Isaac and Tena (Gieb) Troyer.

Russ was in the US Army Air Corps during WWII, where he was a tail gunner on
B-24 bombers in the Pacific Theatre (1944-1946).

He retired in 1988 from International Paper Co with 40 years of service. He
attended Apple Creek Methodist Church.

He married Joan (Hodge) on April 7, 1947 in Wooster. Surviving in addition to his
wife, are sons Dale (DeDe) Gerber of Wooster, R. Dean Gerber of Ft Myers, Florida,
son-in-law, David Venosdale of Shreve, grandchildren, Amanda Hauser, Lysandra
Rowland and Alicia Gerber and great-grandchildren, Silas Hauser, Leondra Rowland
and Gracie Rowland.

His family was very important to him, as he was to them, and he will be missed.

His hobbies were stamp and coin collecting, in addition to his other treasures.

Russ was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Venosdale, his parents, his foster
parents, eleven brothers and sisters and four foster brothers and sister.

The family thanks Burbank Parke Nursing Care for their excellent and compassionate care.

Friends may call Monday from 10 to 11 am at Roberts Funeral Home - Sherwood Chapel, Wooster. Services will follow at 11am with Pastor Kenn Curren officiating. Burialwill be at Sherwood Memorial Gardens, Wooster, where military rites will be held.
