Ruth Honaker

May 5, 1922 — March 21, 2021

Ruth E. Honaker, 98, of Wooster, died Sunday, March 21, 2021 at her home in Wooster surrounded by her family.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date.  Burial will be at Sherwood Memorial Gardens, Wooster.   Roberts Funeral Home – Sherwood Chapel, Wooster is handling arrangements.  Online tributes may be made at www.RobertsFuneralHome.com.   In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ohio’s Hospice LifeCare, 1900 Akron Rd. Wooster, OH 44691 or Church of the Saviour, 480 Fry Rd., Wooster, OH 44691.

Ruth was born May 5, 1922 in Louisville to Samuel and Mary {Rohrer} Chenot.

Ruth graduated from Louisville High School.

She married Mahlon K. Honaker on August 31, 1941. They celebrated 67 years of marriage before his passing in 2008.

Ruth was a co-owner with her husband of Honaker Marine. She was a charter member of the Church of the Saviour where she especially enjoyed the Berean Sunday School class and her Thursday morning Bible study group.  She loved sharing her gift of cooking with her family, neighbors, and friends.  Ruth was famous (in our family at least) for her chocolate chip cookies and broccoli noodle soup.  She was a woman of faith who dedicated her life to raising her family to follow the Lord.

She loved traveling, spending their winters in Florida for over 25 years, fishing, and playing golf. She considered scoring her hole-in-one at LC Boles Golf Course as one of her greatest accomplishments.  She loved her Cleveland Indians and never missed watching a game, no matter what time of day or night.  She loved a game of cards, even playing in the last week of her life.

She lived her life by Philippians 4:13 and Psalm 23.  She truly had a servant’s heart and her faith sustained her through the trials and triumphs of life.

Our family will be forever grateful to the wonderful nurses and caregivers from Ohio’s Hospice LifeCare for their kindness and compassion the past eight months.

Ruth will be deeply missed by her daughters Nancy Brown and Joan (Charlie) Kiper both of Wooster and Carol (Herb) Young of Holden Beach, NC., grandchildren Sheryl (Steve) Ellcessor, Wendy (Steve) Jennings, Ron (Karen) Brown, Scott (Jessica) Kiper, Brian (Jennifer) Kiper, Chad (Elizabeth) Young, Michelle Shinn; 16 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Mahlon, an infant son, son-in-law Gerry Brown, grandson Mark Kiper, 2 sisters and a brother.
