Ruth Faye Maxon

July 29, 1931 — May 8, 2023

Marietta

Ruth Faye Maxon of Marietta passed away on Monday, May 8, 2023, at the age of 91. She was
born July 29, 1931, to Bert and Alta Smith of Beverly, Ohio. She was the last surviving member of her
family, being predeceased by sisters Dora Mae Tyler and Betty Smith, and brothers Robert, Charles,
Emmett, and Louis Smith.
On August 27, 1948, she married Thomas O. Maxon. They spent the next 68 years on the family
farm, until his passing in 2016. Ruth was the mother of six children: Dean (Linda) and Donald (Kathy)
Maxon of Marietta, and Denise (Michael) Traxler of Worhtington, OH. Three children, Dennis, Dale, and
Deborah Allphin, are deceased. Ruth was the grandmother of 11: Jason Maxon, Dustin Maxon, Darcie
Dye, Brian Stark, Nicole Maxon, Heather VonVille, Hannah Maxon, Reed Traxler, Rachel Traxler, and Ricci
Allphin. One grandson, Donald “DJ” Maxon, is deceased. She is also survived by 19 great-grandchildren.
Ruth worked as the manager of Dudley’s Hallmark for many years. She enjoyed making new
friends and reminiscing with her old ones. However, the best part of her life was being called
“Grandma.” Her own grandchildren were always welcome and often brought a few friends along. For
over forty years family and friends gathered to eat Sunday dinner at 5 o’clock sharp. The family loved
her homemade noodles and dinner rolls. At Christmas she would invite the children to bake cookies and
make fudge and popcorn balls for the holidays. No one was ever turned away. After a winter
snowstorm adults and children gathered to go sleigh riding down the “big” hill. Grandma always had the
door open for everyone to warm up and enjoy a hot cup of cocoa.
The family would like to thank Hollie Orders and the nursing staff at the Washington County
Home for their care of Ruth. We would also like to thank Hospice. In lieu of flowers, we ask that
donations be made to the Washington County Home, Attn: Hollie Orders, 845 County House Lane,
Marietta, OH 45750.
There will be no visitation hours. The family will have a private funeral at their convenience. Roberts Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Online tributes may be made at www.robertsfuneralhome.com
