Shirley D. Farone passed away after a brief illness on May 27, 2024, at Brethren Care Skilled Nursing Facility in Ashland, Ohio. She was born July 25, 1937, in Hounsfield, New York. She was most recently a resident of Ashland, Ohio, where she and her husband Alfred lived for almost 40 years.
Shirley attended business school after graduating as salutatorian of her class at Sackets Harbor High School. She worked as an executive secretary for many different business entities in Watertown and Syracuse, NY, and in the Akron, OH area. In the 1980s she owned and operated Mr. Sub sandwich shop in Cuyahoga Falls with her husband. After retiring, Shirley took up the pastime of genealogical research, a pastime which took her and Al all around the United States. She was fascinated with family ancestry, both hers and others’, and was prolific in producing binders for numerous family surnames. She had countless friends in the genealogy community, located all over the country.
Shirley is survived by her daughters Tara (Dale) Lewellen of Newark, OH, and Luanne (Joseph) Singel of Avon Lake, OH; grandchildren, Hannah (Joshua) Brahm, Nathanael Briner, and Chloe (Malik Masri) Briner; great-grandchildren Noah, William and Eli Brahm; Hafsah Masri; sister, Elaine Pond and many nieces and nephews.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, William and Doris (Hasner) Conklin; husband, Alfred M. Farone; sister, Joan (Conklin) Van Camp; and brothers Leonard Conklin and Roland Conklin.
Memorial donations can be made in Shirley’s name to the Jefferson County New York Genealogical Society. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
