Thomas D. Sines, 58, Wooster, passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2013, in Wooster.
Tom was born on October 4, 1954, in Louisville, Kentucky, to Dewey and Mary Ann Sines. He learned early to work hard and helped take care of his family. Moving then to rural Crandall, Indiana, he developed his love of basketball by shooting in the old barn and his running ability on the long lane. He excelled in track and basketball at North Harrison High School in Ramsey, Indiana, and at Orrville High School from which he graduated in 1974.
Tom began working for Bob Polsky at Volper Iron and Metal in 1974 then at Metallics Recycling, where he was promoted to Plant Superintendent. He left in 1988 to establish his trucking, warehousing and surplus materials company, Sines Enterprises, doing business as far away as China. Tom cared deeply for the many devoted people who worked at his side for many years. His sons and several nephews and nieces spent many summers working in the business.
Tom wanted his children to experience working on a farm, so he built a barn and they spent many hours feeding cows, gathering eggs and birthing piglets. Tom loved watching his sons in basketball, football, track and baseball and coached a couple of their early community teams. In his little free time, he enjoyed golf, and he owned and operated a late-model race car for a period of time. Tom also helped many people in many ways throughout his life.
In 2008 Tom was diagnosed with an extremely rare form of leukemia, of which there was only one other known case in the world. His family wishes to thank John K. Miller, M.D., for his many years of care and Paul Masci, D.O., for his persistent efforts to help Tom fight the disease and for his compassionate treatment.
Tom was preceded in death by his father on February 3, 1974, and his brother Walter on February 26, 2005. He is survived by son Joseph D. Sines of Orrville and his family Summer Yates, Madi Cover, and Anthony Sines who Tom proudly welcomed as his first grandson; his daughter Stacey L. Sines and Tom's other beloved grandson Dominic of Orrville; and his former wife, Honore Medve Strader of Smithville, mother of Joe and Stacey. Tom also is survived by sons Thomas A. Sines who is serving in the U.S. Army at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina, and Aaron R. Sines of Stow; and his former wife Dottie Alexander Sines of Wooster, who he married on September 1, 1984, and who is the mother of Tommy and Aaron. Tom is also survived by his mother, Mary Ann (Francis) Berkey of Wooster; his brothers Dorsey (Sharon) Sines of Milltown, Indiana, and Tim (Tammy) Sines of Wooster; his sister Bonnie Sizemore of Van Wert, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews who he dearly loved and for whom he was always there.
Tom's children and grandchildren were the loves of his life. Also very dear to him were his best buddies Leslie K. Boop of New Bern, North Carolina; Steven R. Barbera, who passed away April 9 2011; Joel Cessna of Wooster; Bob Kruse of Wooster; Jim Wharton of Smithville; and Chris Boyd of Smithville. The family thanks all of them for their love and support through the years.
It was Tom's wish that no service be held. The family and friends will gather at a later date to remember and celebrate Tom.
