Vera Flick

Vera M. Flick, 89, of Barberton, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, entered the gates of heaven on the morning of September 5, 2017 at Summa Akron City Hospital.

She was born January 12, 1928 in Canonsburg, PA to John and Pearl {Campbell} Meneely.

Although small in stature (she was penned “Pee Wee” in high school), Vera was a huge presence on this earth. She could make you laugh in an instant and fall in love with her at first sight.

Her life was spent primarily as a homemaker raising her family and spending countless hours taking care of friends who meant the world to her. To her, nobody was a stranger. A trip to the store for Band-Aids turned into an all-day affair since every baby had to be touched and every adult had to be greeted.

We were fortunate enough to have her last year at home after spending several years at Pebble Creek Senior Care so she could be with her husband, Richard Flick, who proceeded her in death.

Her greatest love and joy was her human family and pet family, whom will forever miss her.

Her passing leaves sons Scott Flick, Randy Flick and Chris McKnight mourning their loss as well as grandchildren Brandon (Rachel) Flick, Erin (Peyton) Cutlip, Megan Flick and Billy Gossard, Chelsey and Gabbie McKnight. The great grandchildren she left behind are Bella, Hunter, Kane, Kooper, Melody; two sisters Phyllis Lagoni, Shirley )Brownie) Skerl and sister in law Vivian Meneely and a host of friends and family. Also, pets Ozzie, Lavonda and Brotherboy have lost a great companion.

She was preceded in death by two brothers Jack and Edd Meneely and brother in law Frank Lagoni.

The family would like to thank the staff of Pebble Creek for taking such good care of her and being a second family. Clear Path Home Health and Dr. Jury of Visiting Physicians. A special thank you to Dr. Peter Bittenbender of Akron Summa Cardiovascular Institute who worked so closely with our family to make her final days more special.

“God saw her getting tired; a cure was not to be. He wrapped her in his loving arms and whispered ‘Come with me.” She suffered much in silence, but her spirit would not bend. She fought her pain with courage until the very end. She tried so hard to stay with us but her fight was not in vain, God took her to his loving home and freed her from the pain.”

Her family has one final wish in honor of their mother and grandmother. That is to “be good like her.”

Friends may call Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Roberts Funeral Home-Hillcrest Chapel, Seville.  Funeral services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
