Vernon L. Horst, 91, of Wooster, died Thursday, March 5, 2015 at Glendora Health Care Center, surrounded by his loving family.
Friends may call Monday from 1 to 3 p.m. at Roberts Funeral Home-Sherwood Chapel, Wooster. A private funeral service will be held with Pastor Randy Moomaw officiating. Burial will be at Sherwood Memorial Gardens, where military rites will be held. Memorial contributions may be made to Glendora Health Care Center at 1552 N. Honeytown Rd., Wooster, OH 44691 or LifeCare Hospice at 1900 Akron Rd., Wooster, OH 44691.
Vernon was born May 29, 1923 in Sterling to Ivan and Clara {Eberly} Horst.
Vernon was in the United States Army.
He married Ardith {Geiser} on February 9, 1945. She passed on May 6, 2006.
Vernon drove for Marathon Gas Truck and he retired from Kingsford Packaging in Fort Wayne, IN as a salesman. During his retirement he was a parking lot attendant. Vernon was a member of Grace Church of Wooster. He loved to play bingo and spend time with his family.
Vernon will be deeply missed by his daughter Louise (Carl) Hochstetler of Wooster; grandchildren Rita (Tim) Varner and Paula Rooker both of Wooster; great-grandchildren Nicholas and Elizabeth Rooker and Maxine Varner; sister Carol Amstutz of Orrville and sister-in-law Mary (David) Holderman of Orrville.
Vernon was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, brother Wayne Horst and an infant sister.
