Wayne W. McMullen, 75, of Wooster, died Wednesday, December 09, 2015 at Smithville Western Care Center in Wooster.
Memorial services will be Sunday, December 20 at 2:30pm at Washington Avenue Christian Church, Elyria with Rev. Janet Long officiating. Wayne was born November 29, 1940 in Elyria to Glenn and Ella Mae {Morse} McMullen. He graduated from Keystone High School in 1958 and later attended Lorain County Community College for an American Bankers Association diploma in General Banking. He married (Erma) Carol Pancost on October 14, 1967; Carol preceded him in death in July 2012.
Wayne worked at many different jobs in his youth before becoming an employee first at Lorain County Bank and then Elyria Savings and Trust (later First Merit), where he retired as Chief ATM Balancer in 1995. He remained busy in his retirement years, traveling across the country with Carol in a motorhome and exploring the National Parks and other great places of our country. While traveling, Wayne and Carol joined the Escapees RV Club (Chapter 36 Erie Shores) and made many new friends, and Wayne occasionally took on part-time work at places like Daytona International Speedway and Washington-Jefferson National Forest. In recent years, he supported his daughter Jennifer's business by helping her at the Downtown Wooster Farmers' Market.
Introduced to Lions International by both his father and his father-in-law, Wayne became an active member of the Elyria Noon Lions club, where he served as President, and the Elyria Evening Lions club, where he also served as President as well as Zone Chairman (13-B). He joined the Wooster Noon Lions briefly during his retirement. He was a proud Lion for over 35 years, with 33 years of perfect attendance, and he gave much of his time to serving his community.
Wayne enjoyed auto racing of all stripes, from his younger days of working on a local race team in Lorain County to his travels to many different dirt tracks and NASCAR tracks around the country. He also loved music from an early age and spent time in his younger days helping friends spin records at local dances.
He grew up in the First Methodist Church in Elyria and in later years was a member of Washington Avenue Christian Church (Elyria) as well as Trinity Lutheran Church in Jeromesville.
Above all, Wayne enjoyed meeting people and sharing good conversation and good times. He faithfully kept in touch with family members and friends, and he greeted new people like old friends, making them feel welcome and appreciated.
Wayne will be deeply missed by his family, including daughter Jennifer McMullen of Wooster; and sisters Judy (Howard) Sim of Grafton, OH and Carol (John) Booth of Upper Sandusky, OH. Wayne was preceded in death by his wife Carol and his parents.
