Wayne Blair Schmid, 92, of Wooster, died December 7, 2014 at West View Manor, in Wooster.
Friends may call Thursday from 2 to 3 p.m. at Roberts Funeral Home-Sherwood Chapel, Wooster. Funeral services will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Mel Kirk of St. Peter's Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be at Sherwood Memorial Gardens, where military rites will be held. Memorial contributions may be made to LifeCare Hospice, 1900 Akron Road, Wooster, Ohio 44691, or St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 9451 Ashland Road, Wooster, Ohio 44691.
Wayne was born October 16, 1922 in Big Prairie to John Clifford and Ruth Agnes {Kerr} Schmid.
Wayne served in the United States Army Air Force during WWII in Europe in the 326th "Pioneer Mustang" Air Service Group.
He married Donna Jean Franks on January 27, 1950.
He was a supervisor for Wooster Brush Company for 36 years, retiring in 1986. Wayne was a member of the St. Peter's Lutheran Church. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion of Shreve, lifetime Historical Society member, Cemetery Preservation Society member, National Grange of the Order of Patrons of Husbandry, and Genealogy Society. He enjoyed farming, woodworking, and traveling.
Wayne will be deeply missed by his wife Donna of 64 years; children Ruth (Roger) Blumer of Fort Wayne Indiana, Sarah (Brent) Trauger of Jacksonville, FL, Martha Jane (George) Axiotis of Arlington, VA; grandchildren Rachel (Randall) Hale, Laurel (Daniel) McDonald, Leslie (Keith) Walbolt, Michael (Amanda) Trauger, Constance Blair Axiotis, and Georgia Elaine Axiotis; 4great-grandchildren; brother Dale A. Schmid of Big Prairie; sister Martha Joan Croop of Ravenna
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Gilman I. Schmid and Bruce A. Schmid.
