William "Bill" Solomon Hogg

William “Bill” Solomon Hogg, 88, of Mount Vernon, passed away surrounded by his family, Monday June 12, 2023, at Knox Community Hospital, in Mount Vernon OH.

Bill was born February 21st, 1935, in Hamilton, OH, to Golden and Alice (Wilson) Hogg. He married Janet (Meeks) on April 26^th, 1955.

He came to Mount Vernon in 1967 to accept a job with the Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber was having dinner to welcome him to the chamber and his wife Janet to Mount Vernon. Janet wanted a new dress and of course you always buy local. At that time there were two department stores; Rudins and Ringwalters so off to do some shopping. Janet came home empty handed, and Bill asked what was the matter to which she replied, “They only had 4 in my size to choose.” to which Bill replied, “My God, you only need one.” That was Bill. He enjoyed making balsa wood airplanes for his grandchildren. He initiated Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors and enjoyed meeting many people. He received the Paul Harris award and volunteer of the year award. After years with the Chamber, he went to work at A.M.G. Industries. After that he opened / operated the W.S. Hogg Insurance Agency in Mount Vernon until he retired in 2001.

Bill loved playing Golf and had a standing tee time every Thursday at the Apple Valley Golf Course with the same group for many years. He sang with a gospel quartet called The Vanguard Quartet alongside of Jimm McElroy, Bill Bridges and Dick Porter. He also enjoyed playing music with some friends, Dick Hottinger and Max Talbott as well as doing crosswords in ink.

Bill will be deeply missed by his wife Janet, a son Brian (Susan) Hogg, grandsons; Peyton, Evan, Brandon and Josh; brother Raymond (Connie) and nieces and nephews.

William was preceded in death by his parents, a son Stephen Hogg and his sister Wanda Hogg.

Family will receive friends Friday June 16^th, 2023, 5p.m. to 7p.m. at Roberts Funeral Home, Mount Vernon Chapel followed by a Celebration of Life service with Pastor Marvin Haught officiating. Burial will be at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens, where military rites will be held.
