James Zimmerman

James L. “Jim” Zimmerman, 92, of Ashland, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 30, 2018 from his earthly home.

Jim was born December 7, 1925 in Ashland, the son of Reno and Maude {Wiley} Zimmerman.

He attended Ashland City Schools and was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Army.

Jim married Bonnie Balliett on July 18, 1954 and they had 64 years together.

He was an employee of Gilbert Furniture Co. for 47 years.  James was a member of New Life Community Church.  He enjoyed and owned a number of classic cars.  Jim liked country western and gospel music, and was a fan of leather and wearing vests.

Jim will be deeply missed by his wife Bonnie; son David Zimmerman of Ashland and daughter Jan (Mike) Knecht of Mansfield; three grandsons Ryan Knecht of Tulsa, OK, Jason and Justin (Shannon) Knecht both of Ontario; three great-grandchildren Kaleb, Aubrey and Lindsay; brother Ron Gray of Mansfield and sister Ann Gray of Ashland.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, son Jimmy Zimmerman, grandson Cory Knecht, three brothers Claude and Frank Wheeler and Bob Gray, and one sister Mary Bennett.

Friends may call Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Roberts Funeral Home-Ashland Chapel. Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at New Life Community Church with Pastor Dave McNeely officiating.  Friends may also call one hour prior to the service from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church. Burial will be at Ashland County Memorial Park, where military rites will be held.
