Alice Genevieve "Gennie" Austin passed away Sunday, Feb. 5, 2006, at Flower Hospital in Sylvania at the age of 84.
Gennie was born Oct. 19, 1921, in Battle Creek, Mich., the daughter of Clarence and Leona Lowther Harrington.
She was married July 23, 1943, to Orville W. Austin, who preceded her in death May 30, 2005.
Gennie worked at Brosky's Restaurant in Perrysburg, Ohio, until she and Orville moved to Fort Myers, Fla. in 1969. While in Fort Myers, Gennie worked 25-plus years at McCrory's Department Store, retiring in 1999.
Orville and Gennie enjoyed shelling, deep sea fishing, flea markets and Wal-Mart. Gennie also enjoyed taking pictures, Bingo and making crafts.
Gennie is survived by her sons and their families, Jerry (Karin) Austin of Toledo, Eleece (Kevin) Barger, Francine Austin, Noel Patznick, Brianna, C.J. and Cadin Austin; and Jim (Kate) Austin of Copley, U.S. Army Spc. Kenneth J. Austin; and great-grandchildren, Kylee and Devin Barger.
Also surviving are one brother, Bob Smith of Arizona; and one sister, Judy Trumbull of Toledo.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Clarence Harrington and Eugene Harrington; and one sister, Dorothy Champion.
The family would like to express their thanks to the staff of Kingston of Ashland, Kingston of Sylvania and Flower Hospital for the loving care given to Gennie.
Services will be noon Saturday, Feb. 11, 2006, at Roberts Funeral Home, 1058 US 250 North, Ashland. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until noon Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Ashland County Memorial Park.
