Bernard L. Steward, 67 of Wadsworth died Wednesday, February 15, 2006 at home following a courageous battle with cancer. Services will be Monday, February 20, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. at Roberts Funeral Home-Hillcrest Chapel at 9560 Acme Road. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Friends may call Sunday, February 19, 2006 from 6 to 8 P.M. at the funeral home. On lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in honor of Bernard Steward at First Merit Bank, 1310 Sharon-Copley Road in Sharon Center, Ohio 44274.
He was born October 7, 1938 in Morehead, Iowa to Ernest and Dora (Gray) Steward and married Anna Bellis on October 9, 1956. She survives. He resided in Wadsworth since 1983 and loved playing golf and baseball. He began working at the Omaha Country as a teenager and had most recently been driving range superintendent of Firestone Country Club. He was known for his Christmas light display, loved playing with his grandson, Lance (Scooter) and was a member of the First Christian Church of Wadsworth.
He is survived, in addition to his wife Anna of 49 years, by children Randy (Nina) Steward of Elkhorn, Nebraska, Brad (Kim) Steward of Wadsworth, Stacey Steward (Justin Hazen) of Wadsworth, grandchildren David, Nancy, Ben, Maureen and Lance, mother Dora Steward of Omaha, Nebraska, brothers Bernell (Sinda) Steward of Iowa, Norman (Donna) Steward of Nebraska and sisters Lois (Jim) Adams of Nebrask, Shirley (Russ) Jenkins of Iowa and Bernice Birk of Iowa..
His father Ernest Steward, sisters Delores Blake and Ardith Steward and father in law Roy Bellis preceded him in death.
