Charles Lyon

2 Timothy 4:7-8 “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith; Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day; and not to me only, but unto all them that love his appearing.”

Charles G. “Chuck” Lyon, 71 of Apple Creek died March 1, 2012 after a hard-fought courageous battle with cancer. Always optimistic, he lived his illness one day at a time. His faith, while not boastful was deep and a constant comfort to him.

Born to Esther McKibbin Smith Lyon and Charles Grover Lyon on December 2, 1940 in Wheeling, WVA, he grew up in Wooster. He proudly earned his GED later in life. He retired from Astro Metallurgical after 28 years of service. Chuck was a member of Evangel Assembly of God.

Chuck was a great outdoorsman and sportsman. Among his many hobbies he enjoyed hunting, range shooting, fishing, boating, and golf.

His love of riding motorcycles began at the age of 12. He was active in several motorcycle clubs, enjoyed riding and working on bikes with friends, supporting charity rides, and was an ardent supporter of Bike Night at KC’s in Orrville.

He was a great entertainer, playing both harmonica and guitar. He had a velvet voice for speaking and singing, especially gospel and played with Tri-County Country Band at Pat’s Place in Craigton.

Chuck was a man of many wonderful qualities but he will be remembered especially for being a good man with courage, compassion, and integrity. His quick wit and humorous comebacks made everyone laugh. A man of friendship, his friends knew they could always count on his support. His love of children and animals was always returned to him, especially by his beloved dog Maggie and granddog Kenai.

Chuck will live on in the memory of his loving wife, soul mate, and best friend of 34 years, Judy. Children Kristen Salyards John and husband Eric of Raleigh, NC, Avery Goins and husband Merrill of Wooster, Charles W. of Ocala, FL, and Deborah of Wooster; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; special nephew Don Horst of Loudonville; special grandniece Shelly Dickson of Loudonville; and Gavyn Keyes, special great-grandson.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Moine, Bill, and Cecil Smith; Sisters Jessie Mae Norris, Thelma Moore, and Maxine Lehman.

The family is grateful to Dr. Paul Masci and staff of the Cleveland Clinic for their expert and compassionate care, to Dr. Cyril Ofori and staff of the Wooster Heart Group, his home health nurse Linda Bosley, RN, and Dr. David Lance and the staff of angels from Hospice & Palliative Care of Greater Wayne County.
