Clair Roy “Bus” Dorland, 83, of Medina, went to be with his Lord on Saturday, December 06, 2008 at his residence in Lafayette Township.
Bus was born December 26, 1924 in Leroy, OH to Earl H. and Mary E. (Yost) Dorland. He was a 1943 Leroy High School graduate. After graduation, he was drafted and served in the US Army in the European Theatre during WWII in the 569
th
AAA/AW Battalion, most notably during the liberation of France and the invasion of the Rhineland, receiving an honorable discharge after three years of service.
Shortly after returning home, he met and married his life-long partner, Zilda Carlton on July 31, 1948. Clair worked as a machinist for Chevrolet Parma from 1951 until his retirement in 1980. He was a member of the Lafayette United Methodist Church where he served as a Trustee, sang in the choir, and was a Youth Club table parent. Bus was also a charter member of the Lafayette Volunteer Fire Dept. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, golf, and extensive travel with his beloved Zilda.He loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Bus was preceded in death by his wife Zilda, his parents, brother Glenn and sister Margaret Hottel.
Bus will be deeply missed by his children Karen (Dan) Weiskittel of San Antonio, TX and Don (Jean) Dorland of Medina area; grandchildren Laura (Gary) Stinnett, Jeff Weiskittel, Kristi (Tim) Gacek, Todd (Kelly) Dorland, and Mark (Chandra), John, and Robert Lachendro; great-grandchildren Courtney, Nicholas, Emily, Abigail, Evelyn, Alycen, Mackenzie, Jaxon, Trevor, Lilly, Amahya, Natasha and Lucia; brother Dale (Pam) of Philadelphia, PA and sister Florence Cahoon of Hartville.
The family wishes to express special thanks to Ray Bastian and George Reep for their invaluable assistance in caring for our father and to all of the family, friends, and VNS staff (especially Mary A.) for all of the calls, cards, food, love, and prayers.
Friends may pay their respects Tuesday from 6 to 8 pm at the Roberts Funeral Home – Hillcrest Chapel, 9560 Acme Rd., Seville.
Celebration of Life will be Wednesday at 11am at the Lafayette United Methodist Church, 6201 Lafayette Rd., Medina, officiating Pastors John Meliher of Lafayette UMC and Floyd Costello of Caldwell UMC.Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens with military rites.Online tributes may be made at
