David E. Doty, 86 of Wooster, died Monday, November 13, 2006 at Smithville Western Care Center. ??Memorial services will be Friday at 11am at the Zion Lutheran Church in Wooster, with Rev. David was born November 17, 1919 in Wooster to Fred L. and Mae (Whittier) Doty. ?At the age of 10, along with his father, David planted the Wooster Christmas Tree. ?He served in the U. S. Army Company C, 148th Infantry, 37th Division during WWII, spending 3 years in the South Pacific, where he earned the Bronze Star and Purple Heart medals. ?He was married to Betty Wile on June 3, 1945 by Rev. Dr. John Kindsvatter. ?She survives. ?
He retired from Rexroth in 1983 after 20 years of service, and worked for National Pattern in Orrville. ?David was also a volunteer firefighter for the City of Wooster for 37 years. ?He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church where he served as an usher for many years and was a Boy Scout leader for Troop 65. ??David was a member of the Gnat Boxers Square Dance Club and co-founder of the Wayne County Archery Club. ?He made Kentucky Long Rifles, and was an avid wood carver for many years, and was a Silversmith.
Surviving in addition to his wife are children Barbara (Bill) Buchwalter, Ted (Gloria) Doty, Amy (Steve) Williamson all of Wooster, David (Blanche) Doty II of Pawpaw, Michigan; grandchildren Dr. Cheryl (Gary Snodgrass) Buchwalter, Carrie (Bill) Groves, Christina (Ed) Pittman, Chad (Sandee) Buchwalter, Lori Zimmerman, Angie (Greg) Carpenter, Gennie (T.R.) Hileman, Ashley Doty, James David Doty; great grandchildren Justice Snodgrass, Matthew and Jared Groves, Emma and Abbey Buchwalter, Skylar Chambers; sister Ruth Smith of Canton; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, brothers Fred Doty, Don L. Doty; sisters Harriet Duplain, Charlotte Yeagley, Helen Harding, and Amy Talbert died previously.
