Former Ashland resident Donal Luther Bird, 85, of Mount Vernon, died Wednesday, July 26, 2006, at the Laurels of Mount Vernon.
Born Oct. 18, 1920, in Hurricane, W.Va., he was the son of Jessie Patrick and Ethel Mandy Williams Bird.
Mr. Bird lived in Ashland from 1952 until moving to Mount Vernon in 2003.
He had been employed at Mansfield Tire and Rubber Co. He was a member of the Ashland Church of the Nazarene. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was married Oct. 18, 1946, to Pearl Maxine Andrews, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Peggy and James Bostic of Fredericktown and Nikki and Charles Sgandurra of Sunbury; four grandchildren, Jason Bostic and his wife Jennifer, Amanda Shade and her husband Terry, Kristin and Katelyn; two stepgrandchildren, Nick and Hannah Sgandurra; and two sisters, Opal Chapman of Hurricane, W.Va. and Wilma MacAfee of Zanesville.
His parents; three brothers, Ira, Robert and Richard; and two sisters, Iva King and Zelma Ward, preceded him in death.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday, July 31, 2006, at Roberts Funeral Home, 1058 US 250 North, Ashland, with Pastor Darrell Leibolt officiating. Burial will be in Ashland County Memorial Park, with the Ashland Veterans Honor Guard conducting military rites.
