Donald "Dean" Akins, 74, of Wooster, died Saturday, November 10, 2007 at his residence. ?Private services will be held at the Roberts Funeral Home - Sherwood Chapel with the Rev. Clyde E. Ondrizak officiating. ?Burial will be at Sherwood Memorial Gardens where military rites will be held. ?There will be no calling hours.

Dean was born May 25, 1933 in Big Prairie to Gaillaird and Evelyn (Lehr) Akins. ?He married Peggy Oberholtzer August 21, 1955. She survives. ?
Dean was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team in 1952. He then served during the Korean Conflict in the US Army in the 11th Airborne.
He owned Akins Plumbing and Heating for many years, then he opened the plumbing service center for Retzler's True Value Hardware where he worked until his retiriment.
He was a member of the Wayne County Coin Club, and enjoyed setting up crafts at craft shows with his wife and daughter.
In addition to his wife, Dean will be deeply missed by childen Joan (Kenny) Flinner of Wooster,
Douglas (Paula) Akins of Wooster ; grandchildren Jason, Courtney, Kristy, Rachael, Nick; great grandchildren Cale and Owen; sister Pat of Wooster, and close friend John Ross.
