Donald W. Wilson, 77, of Wooster, went to be with Our Lord and join his loving wife on Tuesday, January 20, 2009.Friends may greet the Family Sunday from 4-7 p.m. at Wooster Church of the Nazarene located at 3100 Oak Hill in Wooster, Celebration of His Life Service will follow at 7:30 p.m., Reverend Joel Yates officiating.A Full Military Interment will take place at 2:30 p.m., Monday, at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Rd., Rittman, Ohio.
Don was born September 11, 1931, in Akron, Ohio to the late Audus Aural and Addie Bessie (Knapp) Wilson.He graduated from Cuyahoga Fall High School.Donald served his Country in the Air Force during the Korean War.Donald’s commitment as a Veteran was a major part of his life.He went on to graduate with degrees from Kent State University and The University of Akron.Despite Don’s diagnosis of Narcolepsy after the Military, he continued to live life to its fullest, which inspired everyone who knew him.Don married his high school sweetheart, Phillis Jean Weirich on June 16, 1951, and they continued to be sweethearts until she passed away December 8, 2004.Early in his career Don was employed over 20 years at Sears & roebuck Co. After receiving his computer degree he retired from the College of Wooster as a Computer Analyst.He was presently attending Wooster Church of the Nazarene and was also a lifetime member of the First Presbyterian Church Wooster.Over the years he played in several golf leagues, Wooster Duplicate Bridge and the Wooster Stock Forum.His happiest times were spent attending his Grandchildren’s activities, Grandpa was their #1 fan!Don’s loving devotion to his family showed in everything he did.
In addition to his loving wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Wendell.After his wife passed away Don resided in Wooster with his Daughter Julie Ann and Grandchildren until he joined his wife.
Don will be deeply missed by his children Cyndi (Vincent) Porter of San Antonio, Texas, Julie Ann Wilson and Elizabeth Maynard of Wooster; grandchildren Michael (Niki) Porter, Justin Donald and Jaclyn Nicole Herald, Hannah Victoria and Arthur Dennison Crocker III, brother Warren (Eileen) Wilson of Suffield; and beloved sister, Wanda (Joe) Shuman of Akron; “grandchildren” Luke Bartkowiak, Luella Gilbert, Nathan Wright, Elizabeth
Yoho, Cevilla Troyer, Susan Hershberger, Aimee London, Jason London, Michael Robinson and Samuel Closson.Don will be most remembered for his witty sense of humor!He had a heart of gold and never considered anyone a stranger.A very special thank you to Dr. John K.
