Elmer F. Yockey, 81, of Wooster, died Thursday, October 2, 2008 at Akron General Hospital in Akron.Services will be Monday at 2:00pm at Roberts Funeral Home-Sherwood Chapel, Wooster with Rev. Melvin Kirk officiating.Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.Burial will be at Sherwood Memorial Gardens where military rites will be held.Online tributes may be made at ww.robertsfuneralhome.com .

Elmer was born January 24, 1927 in Shreve to Ernest and Vera (Bevington) Yockey.He served in the U. S. Army during WWII.He graduated from Wooster Business College. He married Denna K. Walton on January 24, 1948.Elmer was the Jefferson Boy Scout Troops’ first Scout Master.He worked for the J. M. Smucker Company for 39 years, retiring in 1995. He was a member of the Legion Post #68. He collected bottles, stones and rocks.He loved fishing with his son Donald, granddaughter September and grandson Eric. He also enjoyed mushroom hunting, taking tours and playing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.


Elmer will be deeply missed by his wife and children Donald Yockey and Debbi Jenkins both of Wooster and Michael Yockey of Marion, grandchildren Darl, David, Jacinda Yockey, September (Darvis) Donley, Don (Alyssa) Walton, Eric Walton, Denna (Matthew) Jarr, Matthew Marti and Richard (Kady) Jenkins, great-grandchildren Madee, Nadia, Audrey, Fallon, Saoirse, Jason Mattew, Alexander, Aden, Ione, Natalie and Kenneth, sisters Betty Hendrix of Shreve, Helen (Harold) Taggart and Patsy Price both of Wooster.


Elmer was preceded in death by his son Joel; grandson Jason Marti; brothers Curtis, Dale and Donald Yockey; and sisters Mona Mae Yockey, Florence Fransisco and Mary Jane Pittman.
