Florence Elizabeth Shaw Kostohryz, 82, of Denton, TX, died from cancer at her residence on August 5, 2008.
She was born on Feb. 17, 1926, in Mt. Vernon, OH, to Walter Shaw and Vivian (Ross) Shaw.
After graduating from Danville High School, Florence became an x-ray technician in Cleveland, OH. Her marriage of 53 years to Joseph James Kostohryz began on Sept. 23, 1949, in Berea, OH.
Because of her deep faith in Jesus Christ, she actively served others wherever she lived. She was a Sunday School and Bible study teacher, a Girl Scout leader, an election-precinct volunteer, and a social activities director. Her desire to give to others was evident to everyone she met. A devoted mother, wife, and grandmother; Florence will always be remembered for her home-cooked meals, her love of gardening, and how she danced through life.
She was preceded in death by her son, Jeffrey James Kostohryz, on April 30, 2008; husband, Joseph Kostohryz; on Dec. 14, 2002; brother, Kenneth Shaw; parents; and infant son, Gary.
She is survived by her daughter, Sherrie Markwood of Perrysburg, OH; son, Kelvin Kostohryz (Kathy) of Norwalk, CT; and daughter-in-law, Sheryl Kostohryz of Denton, TX; as well as her brother, Byers Shaw of Washington Court House, OH and her 8 grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 16, at 11:00 a.m. at the Grace Brethren Church, 1144 W. Main St. in Ashland. Friends will be received at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Grace Brethren Church, the American Hospice of Denton, 1410 N. Elm St.; Denton, TX 76201, or the American Cancer Society, Denton Unit, 3301 W. Freeway; Fort Worth, TX 76107.
Burial will be at Ashland County Memorial Park at a later time. Roberts Funeral Home – Ashland Chapel assisted family with arrangements.
