Frances May Helmick, 93, of Columbus, died Saturday, December 27, 2008, at Friendship Village of Columbus, Ridgewood.A family funeral service will be Wednesday, December 31 at 2:00 P.M. at Roberts Funeral Home-Sherwood Chapel, Wooster, OH with Pastor Kevin Phipps officiating.Burial will follow at Sherwood Memorial Gardens.

Frances was born December 20, 1915 in Pennsville, OH to Francis A. and Alice M. (Kinsey) Davis.She received her Bachelors degree in education from Ashland University.Frances attended Kent State University where she received a Master of Arts in Education with Reading Specialist Certification.She taught for 15 years most of which was with Wooster City Schools.Frances married Richard H. Helmick Sr. on May 29, 1936.He passed away in 1966. During retirement, she traveled all over the world and volunteered for People to People Ministries.She was a member of:Central Christian Church, Wayne County Retired Teachers Association, Morgan County and Ohio Historical Societies, Daughters of the American Revolution and Daughters of the War of 1812.After the death of her husband, she ran his oil and gas company for 23 years.Frances became interested in genealogy and wrote a family book
Acorns and Oaks, the Story of a Family
in 1990.Art was a lifelong passion and she enjoyed using various mediums, most recently, colored pencils.
Frances will be deeply missed by her children Richard (Sandra) Helmick Jr. of Oregon, Sharon (Ken) Davis of Reynoldsburg; grandchildren Kristen (H) Stants of Boston, Michael (Dawn) Davis of Reynoldsburg, Brian (Erin) Davis of Canal Winchester; great-grandchildren Jason Davis, Stevie & Sadie Frances Stants.She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Alice, brothers Harold and Richard and grandson Steven.
