Frank William Askey, 88, of Ashland, died Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at Med Central Health Systems.
Frank was born October 19, 1923, in Fulton Run, PA the son of Thomas S. and Rose E. (Merinka) Askey.
He was a 1942 graduate of Ashland High School. Frank enlisted in the Navy, transferring to the Marines,serving in the South Pacific during World War II.Former Dominion, Glenn Roofing employee, Frank retired from F.E. Myers in 1985.He served on the Myers Employee Recreation Association, Myers Credit Union, Recording Secretary and shop committee for LL1297, delegate to Ohio State Council of Machinist, District 54 and Central Labor.He also served on United Appeal Board.He was a member of Ashland Nazarene Church, and he attended Grace Brethren Church, and was a lifetime member of VFW Post 1067, Ashland Senior Citizen and McDonald’s Breakfast Bunch.
He married his wife Jane Askey, on June 19, 1976.
In addition to his wife, Jane, Frank will be deeply missed by his daughters, Pat (Mike) Marker and Ruth (Phil) Shafer, both of Ashland; one son, David Askey of Tombstone, AZ.; also four grandsons, Michael and Mark Marker, William (Val) Shafer and Christopher Askey; eight great grandchildren, Amber, Mary, Markie, and Megan Marker, Mallory, Josh and Hannah Marker, Zane Shafer and Chris Askey; and five great great grandchildren, Jaylyn, Caleb, Ryleigh, Raiden andBethany; long time family friends, Charlotte and Ron Elson; two step-children, Larry Stroub of Polk and Lois (Wayne) Rameau of Fitchburg, MA.; two step grandsons, Mike (Wendy) Stroub of Nankin and his brother and sister, Levi and Tiffany (Cody Gibbons) Elson, Wade Wolf (Janette Brown) of Elyria; four step great grandchildren, Jordan, Zack, Nate, and Trevor Stroub of Nankin; a great great granddaughter, Cayliegh Elson of Ashland.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers,Robert and Marvin, one great grandchild, and his first wife, Harriette Miller.
Funeral services will be 1 pm. Saturday, January 21, 2012 at Roberts Funeral Home, Ashland Chapel, 1058 US Rte 250 N.Visitation will be, Friday from 5p-7p at the funeral home.Interment will be at Ashland County Memorial ParkMilitary rites will be presented by the Joint Veterans Association.The Online tributes may be made at
