John Thomas Lewis, 100, died Thursday morning, Jan. 12, 2006, at Good Shepherd Nursing Home, where he had been a resident.
Born March 18, 1905, in Ritchie County, West Virginia, he was the son of Otis and Malinda Watson Lewis.
Mr. Lewis had been a resident of Ashland County for 62 years. He had worked 23 years in the coalmines of West Virginia. He had worked as a mechanic at Whitey?s Lincoln Mercury in Mansfield, retiring at the age of 76.
He was a member of the National Rifle Association and enjoyed hunting and making wood stocks for guns.
He was married Dec. 23, 1934, to Margaret Irene Dawson, who preceded him in death Oct. 11, 1994.
Surviving are two sons, Walter Lewis of Clarksburg, West Virginia and Donald E. Lewis of Ashland; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Lorretta and Arleigh Cooper, Betty June and Jack Ferrell and Wilma and Gary Newcomer, all of Ashland and Bettie Mae Robey of Lumberport, West Virginia; 15 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Delores Virginia Lewis, in 1939; two grandchildren; one brother, Russell Lewis and one sister, Eva Lewis.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 16, 2006, at Roberts Funeral Home, 1058 US 250 North, Ashland, with the Rev. Scott Myers officiating. Burial will be in Ashland County Memorial Park.
