John Richard Meeker, 84, of Wooster, died Wednesday, January 23, 2008 at West View Manor in Wooster. ?Services will be Saturday at 10am at the West View Chapel with Pastor Dale RuLon officiating. ?Entombment will be at Sherwood Memorial Gardens. ?There will be no calling hours. ?Online tributes may be made at www.robertsfuneralhome.com.
John was born August 5, 1923 in Cygnet, OH to Fred and Katie {Echelbarger} Meeker. ?He married Ruth Hedberg on April 1, 1945. ?She survives.
John served in the Merchant Marines during WWII. ?After the war, he was a lifelong resident of Toledo. ?John was a lineman for the telephone company for many years, he then worked in quality control for Johns Manville in Defiance. ?He finally worked for Jeep, starting in quality control and retiring as vice president of overseas operations.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Toledo, where he served on serveral committees. ?John was a member of Brandywine Country Club and the VFW. ?Along with his wife, he was a supporter of the Toledo Orchestra, Reporatory Theatre of Toledo.
In addition to his wife, John will be deeply missed by children John (Martha) Meeker of Maumee, Mary (Gary) Gray of Pittsfield, MA, and Margaret (Dan) Bourne of Wooster; Grandchildren Elizabeth Ruth Gray, Carolyn Megan Gray, Carter, John, and Afzul Bourne; and a sister Joyce Swope of Bowling Green.
A brother Robert Meeker and sister Betty Perry died previously.
