Mary Drake, 90, of Wooster, died Friday, December 16, 2005 at Smithville Western Care Center. ?Services will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Roberts Funeral Home-Sherwood Chapel, Wooster, with Rev. Kevin Phipps officiating. ?Burial will be at Sherwood Memorial Gardens. ?Friends may call Thursday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. ?Online tributes may be made at www.robertsfuneralhome.com. ?In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 721 E. Milltown Rd., Wooster, OH 44691 or to Hospice & Palliative Care of Greater Wayne County, 2525 Back Orrville Rd., Wooster, OH 44691.
She was born April 29, 1915 in Bedford, Ohio to Benjamin and Katherine Miller. ?She married Alonzo Drake on June 29, 1935. ?He preceded her in death in 1997. ?They moved to Wooster in 1937 where she and Alonzo operated a dairy farm until 1963. ?She drove school bus for Wooster City Schools retiring in 1976 after 25 years of service. ?She was also a secretary for Bowman & Son Insurance & Real Estate and later for Luther Hothem Real Estate. ?She was a member of Central Christian Church. ?She enjoyed volunteering for Wooster Hospital Auxiliary and still participated in the Wayne Twp. Housekeeper's Club. ?She was also a member of the Union Grange. ?She and Alonzo wintered in Sarasota, Florida for 18 years.
Surviving are daughters BJ (Charles) McDermott of Creston and Shirley (James) Ferber of Phoenix, Arizona, grandchildren Mary Lou Cuddy, Richard Hohenshil, Brad McDermott, Susan Ferber and Samara Rasmussen and great-grandchildren Amber, Austin, Sean and Elizabeth.
Her parents, a daughter Ruth Ellen Bartholow, and a sister Ruth Lehman died previously.
