Rev. Charles Presley Tozer, 98, of Copeland Oaks Retirement Village in Sebring, Ohio, died Thursday, February 23, 2006. ?

Services will be Monday at 10 am at the Roberts Funeral Home-Sherwood Chapel, Wooster with the Rev. Dr. David Wilcox officiating. ?Burial will be at Sherwood Memorial Gardens. ?Friends may call Sunday from 2-4 pm or one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. ?Online tributes may be made at www.robertsfuneralhome.com.

He was born on November 17, 1907, in Westover, PA, to Van Roy and Ollie (Troxell) Tozer. ?He was the oldest living minister in the East Ohio Conference of the United Methodist Church, having received the conference's Cane Award in 2005 for that distinction. He served in the Evangelical, the Evangelical United Brethren and the United Methodist Church denominations for 40 years, retiring in 1976 from the Wooster United Methodist Church. ?He received his undergraduate education at Findlay (Ohio) College and North Central College in Naperville, IL. He attended seminary at what is today Garrett Theological Seminary. ?As a pastor in the Evangelical Church, he served congregations in Bettsville (six years) and Flat Rock (two years), Ohio. Following a denominational merger, he was minister in the Evangelical United Brethren Church at Grace EUB, Warren, Ohio (three years), Akron Immanuel EUB (five years), Fairhope (Ohio) EUB (seven years) and Park Avenue EUB in Coshocton, Ohio (five years). After the EUB and Methodist churches merged, he went on to serve Sterling (Ohio) United Methodist Church (four years), then served as visitation minister at Wooster UMC (seven years) until 1976. ?Tozer served his churches with distinction, leading his congregations through membership growth and building programs. ?

He was an avid fisherman, golfer and bowler. His woodworking skills produced fishing lures and grandfather clocks. He was a former member of the Lions Club and was active in numerous kinds of community service. ??He and his wife of nearly seventy years, Ruth (Beissel) Tozer, moved to Copeland Oaks in 1991. ?

In addition to his wife he is survived by children Phyllis (Ralph) Woods of Wooster; Thomas (Linda) Tozer of Murfreesboro, TN.; John (Pat) Tozer of Nashville, TN; and grandchildren Grant, Megan, and Alyssa Tozer.
