Richard “Salty” Walton, 87, of Wooster, died Sunday, April 24, 2011 at Smithville Western Care Center in Wooster.Funeral services will be Wednesday at 3:00pm at Roberts Funeral Home-Sherwood Chapel, Wooster with Reverend Candace Thomas officiating.
Interment will be at Sherwood Memorial Gardens where military rites will be held. Online tributes may be made at

Salty was born February 2, 1924 in Wooster, Ohio to Karl S. and Louise (Wepler) Walton.
He served for 3 years during WWII in the Army with the 82
nd
Airborn. He married Freeda L. Walton on October 31, 1946.
Salty worked for the Timken Co. and retired after 21 ½ years of service.
He was an avid softball fan and liked horses. Salty took the Honor Flight to Washington D.C. in September. He loved spending time with his family.
Salty will be deeply missed by his sons Ken E. (Kay) Walton of Wooster and Erick G. (Carolyn) Walton, of Freeport, Maine, grandchildren Hayley (Joe) Kennedy of Hamilton, Ohio, Jill (Nick) Stocksdale of Morrow, Ohio and Brighid Doherty of Deer Isle, Maine, 5 Great-Grandchildren, and Sister in-law Doris (Bill) Troutman, of Wooster.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, brother Robert Charles and sisters Lucille Walton and Arleen Swartz.
