He was born July 10, 1926, in Srinagar Kashmir, India to David Emmet and Mary Martha (Payne) Alter. ?
He married Mary Ellen Stewart on November 10, 1948. ?After 62 years of marriage, she survives. ?
Bob served as a missionary to North India for 47 years under the Presbyterian Church USA; where he was dedicated to the service of others. He enjoyed hiking, inventing, photography and writing.
He will be deeply missed by his wife Mary Ellen; Children: ?Stephen (Ameeta) Alter of India, Joseph (Nicole) Alter of Pittsburgh, PA, Andrew (Frances) Alter of Sydney, Australia, Grandchildren: ?Jayant, Shibani, Peter, Nathaniel, Nicola, Benjamin, Sisters-in-law: Barbara, Marian, Joyce and Sarah Alter. ?
Bob was preceded in death by his parents and brothers James, David and Joseph.
