Mrs. Ruth Irene (Beissel) Tozer, 95, passed away April 15. She resided at Crandall Medical Center, Copeland Oaks, in Sebring, OH. Mrs. Tozer was born in Elkhart, IN, and graduated from Elkhart High School in 1932. She worked at Monteith Brothers until she entered Evangelical Theological Seminary, in Naperville, IL, and received a Christian Worker’s certification. Mrs. Tozer married the late Rev. Charles P. Tozer in 1936, and both of them graduated from seminary in 1937. The Tozers served the Evangelical, Evangelical United Brethren and The United Methodist denominations and ministered to Ohio congregations in Bettsville, Flat Rock, Warren, Akron, Fairhope, Coshocton, Sterling, and Wooster throughout their career. While living in Fairhope, Mrs. Tozer worked as an administrative assistant to the principal at Fairhope Elementary School and later was interim principal. In Coshocton, she worked at Ford Tractor, and in Wooster she first worked at Akron Brass and later became a partner with the accounting firm of Dixon and Tozer. During all of their pastorates, Mrs. Tozer served the church in numerous ways, including teacher, Vacation Bible School leader and choir director. She was a frequent speaker for various church and community groups and, on occasion, preached on Sunday morning. Rev. and Mrs. Tozer entered the Copeland Oaks Retirement Village in1991. Rev. Charles Tozer died in 2006. Mrs. Tozer is survived by her three children, Mrs. Phyllis (Ralph) Woods, of Wooster, OH; Tom (Linda) Tozer, of Murfreesboro, TN, and John (Pat) Tozer, of Old Hickory, TN. Mrs. Tozer has three grandchildren, Grant, Megan and Alyssa and one step-granddaughter, Jennifer.
Services will be Saturday at 3pm at the Roberts Funeral Home – Sherwood Chapel, Wooster with Rev. Diane Johnson officiating.Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.Burial will be at Sherwood Memorial Gardens, Wooster.Online tributes may be made at
