Virgil Bruce, 93, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday, December 27, 2010 at his daughter's residence in Orrville.?
He was born September 17, 1917 in Wooster to Samuel and Adella (Drabenstott) Bruce.?
During WWII he served in the Marine Corps.
Prior to Virgil's retirement he was employed by Wooster Office Equipment as an office machine repairman.?He was an active member of First Baptist Church in Wooster.
Virgil had a love for all animals and regularly supported the Wayne Co. Humane Society.?He also enjoyed feeding the wild birds outside his window.?He spent most of his retirement years as a woodworker and created many beautiful pieces of furniture for his family and friends.?He also enjoyed writing poetry and has had many of his poems published in the Wooster Daily Record.?
Surviving are his children Carole (James) Luke of Wooster and Belinda (James) Holzaepfel of Orrville, 5 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Virgil was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Gertrude (Martin) in 2002, his brother Russell and sisters Bessie Yocum, Bertha McAfee Feightner and Jean Bruce.
Services will be held at Roberts Funeral Home-Sherwood Chapel, 7067 Cleveland Rd., Wooster on Wednesday December 29 at 3:00 P.M. ?Friends will be received 1 hour prior to the time of the service.
