Wayne Howard Johnson, 82, of Ashland, died Friday, November 30, 2007, at the Cleveland Clinic following a short illness.
Wayne was born on March 21, 1925 to Pearly Johnson and Bertha (Humphrey) Johnson in Ashland.
Wayne taught for 31 years in the Ashland City Schools, most of it as a math teacher at the Ashland Middle School. ?He was a 1951 graduate of Ashland College receiving a bachelor's degree in biology and a minor in math. ?He received his master's degree from Kent State University in 1965. ?He was a member of A.A.R.P., State Teachers Retirement System, Ohio Retired Teachers Association, Ohio Education Association, and the National Education Association. ?He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving as a medic during World War II. ?He was also a member of Maple Grove Church of the Brethren where he was the church historian and former choir director.
Wayne will be deeply missed by two sisters, Ruth E. Cripe and Martha I Stine of Ashland, and two brothers Carl A. Johnson and Paul E. Johnson of Parma. ?Also surviving are many nieces and nephews and their families who dearly loved "Uncle Wayne".
In addition to his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary L. Schwartz and Olive L. Baughman; two brothers, John W. Johnson and Merle L. Johnson; sister-in-laws Pauline Johnson, Clarice Johnson, Elsie Mae Johnson, and Phyllis Johnson; brother-in-laws Loyal A. Cripe, Carl Schwartz, Carl Baughman, and Harold E. Stine.
Services will be at noon on Wednesday, December 5, 2007, at Maple Grove Church of the Brethren, 960 Township Road 964, Ashland with Rev. Bill Shaffer officiating. ??Military rites will be conducted by active duty. ?Interment will be at Ashland County Memorial Park. ?Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 a.m. until noon prior to the service.
The family suggests memorials be made in Wayne's memory to Ashland University, Ashland City Schools Academic Foundation, or to Maple Grove Church of the Brethren.
