William McFarland

July 14, 1929 — January 15, 2006

William Walter McFarland, 76, of 1207 Horse Shoe Cove, Mt. Juliet, Tennessee and formerly of Wooster, died Sunday, January 15, 2006, at McKendree Village Health Center in Hermitage, Tennessee. ?Services will be Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the Roberts Funeral Home-Sherwood Chapel with Rev. Dwight Hayes officiating. ?Burial will be at Sherwood Memorial Gardens where military rites will be held. ?Friends may call Thursday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Online tributes may be made at www.robertsfuneralhome.com.

Bill was born July 14, 1929 in Columbus, Ohio to Raymond and Mary Margaret (Dyrman) McFarland. ?He married Mildred E. Evans on February 4, 1957. ?She survives. ?

Bill graduated from Millersburg High School (now West Holmes High School) and attended the University of Akron. ?He served at the rank of Sergeant in the Air Force during the Korean War stationed in the Bering Strait. He retired in 1995 after 43 years as an Engineer from International Paper Company where he held various management positions. ?He had nine patents and numerous awards of achievement. ?He was an active member in the Hermitage United Methodist Church, chairing many events. ?He will be remembered for his incredible sense of humor, kindness, generosity, and as a loving husband and father who adored his grandchildren. ?He was an avid reader and enjoyed woodworking and traveling within the U.S. as well as abroad with Millie.

Surviving in addition to his devoted wife, are children Donna (Ed) Sommer of Columbus, Mary (Scott) Franks of Wooster, and grandchildren Adam and Jaime Sommer and Carley Franks.

In addition to immediate family members, he will be deeply missed by Lois McFarland of Dayton, Margaret Gisinger of Newark, Gladys and Art Martin, Ruby Mizer, Thelma Daugherty, Clifton and Dorothy Daugherty of Wooster, Dr. and Mrs. Ken Crawford of Vero Beach, Florida, Michael Churvis of Memphis, Tennessee and many friends across the country.

His parents and brother Dr. Charles (Budge) McFarland died previously.
